Red Carpet Ready

4 Mar

This year, I skipped the Academy Awards viewing parties in favor of watching from the comfort of my own home, snuggled up on the couch under a cozy blanket with my favorite little studmuffin (Cody) and a big bowl of skinny chicken tikka masala. Even though I’m a pretty hard core movie aficionado, my favorite part is always oohing and ahhing over the girlie stuff: dresses, shoes, bling…but more than anything I love dying over the hair and makeup.

I’m definitely clear on the fact that those women have teams of a dozen people beuaitfying them over the course of an 8-hour day, but it never hurts to have some red-carpet approved products on hand when you want a little extra prettiness for your own big night out. Whether we’re talking your wedding, a girls night out, or a trip to Whole Foods, here are a handful of my faves:

Arbonne RE9 Advanced Cellular Renewal Masque is my most recent obsession. When my skin starts to feel dull, I just smear it all over my face for 10 minutes- the results are literally on par with getting a glycolic, minus the dry red skin.

Keihl’s Midnight Recovery Oil is my go-to at night…it’s super concentrated so you only need a tiny bit, and sooo moisturizing.

La Mer Moisturizing Cream is literally the best splurge you will ever make. Swear on my life, a tiny bit in the AM + PM will garner all of the compliments you can handle.

When I was trying to get my skin in tip top shape for my wedding, my facialist recommended what I now consider my secret weapon: Renova Tretinoin Enollment. It speeds the turnover of skin cells, resulting in brighter, young looking skin, reduced wrinkles and fine lines, and faded dark spots.  (Prescription only)

I have always been a salon shampoo junkie, but my sensitive scalp couldn’t take the sulfates found in most hair products. My colorist recommended Loreal EverPure Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner and my scalp has been profusely thankful since – and seriously, who knew drug store shampoo would leave my hair so shiny?!

John Freida Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion is another drug store steal, it gives my fine hair amazing volume at the roots and protects it from heat damage.

I literally don’t leave my house without Sugar Lip Treatment by Fresh. SPF 15, moisturizing, and tastes kinda like a sugar cookie.

At the risk of sounding like a bad commercial, Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara will literally make your eyelashes look like fakies…I refuse to deviate.

A few months ago I was at my BFF’s getting ready for a girls night out, and was bitching to her that my skin was looking dull. She passed me a compact of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and excuse my French, but it is effing rad  (PS- the foundation is also amaze).

Hands down, my favorite spray tan is from Blink Studios in Manhattan Beach, but when I can’t get in for a profesh spray down, I use Kate Sommerville 360 Tan Towelettes for a pretty sun-kissed look.
