Thanksgiving Picks

4 Nov

Well hello, happy Monday!  I hope you guys had a great Halloween. I kept things low key this year, but I’ve always loved the season more than the actual day itself so NBD. Jess and I dressed up our dogs (Cody was…duh, a ballerina), took them on parade around Venice and had an early dinner at one of our faves, Feed Body & Soul. I skipped the Halloween candy but had a big ol’ slice of  Harvest Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake instead while I snuggled up under a blanket and watched about 4 hours of Ghost Adventures followed by Paranormal Activity 2. Pretty much my kind of night.

I’m a little distraught that my favorite time of year has come and gone so quickly, but in the words of Jay Z, on to the next!  So that brings me to something brand new to obsess over…Thanksgiving.  I’m hosting turkey day at my place this year and have already begun the hunt for the perfect Thanksgiving table. I prefer to spend the big bucks on high quality ingredients for amazing recipes and balance that by keeping the costs down on tablescape. Does that mean it has to look cheap? Yeah right, would I do that to you!? Never.

Here are my current obsessions that won’t break the bank:

Pumpkin Succulent Vase

I think this (or a smaller collection of these) painted white, would be the most adorbs centerpieces eva. DIY Instructions here. And PS, if you live in LA, here is a little secret for ya: you can get succulents for next to nothing downtown at the Flower Mart.

Gold Rimmed Stemware

Fun (not really) fact: My favorite color is gold. Duh. This gold-rimmed stemware from West Elm adds just enough glam + also happens to be on sale.

Gold Sequined Table Runner

In the spirit of sharing, here’s another little secret: my other favorite color is glitter.  Seriously. Sequins basically fall into this category, but you have to be careful or your Thanksgiving will look like it’s hosted by a stripper. Look for muted or matte sequins, or non-traditional sizes to keep things under control. I’m so all over this runner. I’ll layer it with piles of modern white dishware to keep things unfussy.

Cute Ass Placecards

Heart these Gobble Gobble cards. Even though they’re actually greeting cards, I do believe there is a place on my table for them.

Gold Starburst Napkin Rings

These starburst napkin rings from Z Gallerie are a funky-glam alternative to traditional fall tabletop decor. L-O-V-E.

A Simple Garland

I’m not in love with that triangle bunting that seems to be all the rage right now. It reminds me of children’s birthday parties. Sorry but not sorry, I just don’t like it. I’m also not obsessed with big ass signs that say things likie “Give Thanks.” To me they fall into the Live, Laugh, Love category. Like, it just seems sort of redundant. Yes? No? Maybe I’m weird. But I am, however, digging this simple, neutral garland. Although LBH, I’ll probably give it a good shot with the can of spray glitter. Just saying.

Do you have a favorite look for your Thanksgiving tabletop? Special traditions? Do share…recipes too, because that’s next. Hook a sister up!
